Mr. John Frederick Quinn Jr.

John Frederick Quinn Jr., of Eldersburg, Maryland, passed away on October 29, 2025. Born July 27, 1943, in Baltimore, MD, he was the son of the late John and Ruth Quinn. He was the loving husband to Gail Gay Quinn, his wife of 24 years. John was a graduate of Dundalk High School. He enlisted in the United States Air Force and, the day after graduation, left for Texas. His last duty assignment was HQ Air Forces, Iceland. Returning to civilian life, John joined the United States Secret Service Uniformed Division, where he served for 20 years under five presidents, from Richard Nixon through George H.W. Bush. During his tenure, he achieved many notable accomplishments. Highlights from his time as Officer of Training included serving as a counter-sniper and trainer, becoming a rappel master - developing the training course - and providing instruction to the U.S. Army Delta Force. John received numerous awards for his service, including Expert Firearms Marksmanship, multiple Performance Awards, and a Recognition Award from Interpol. Surviving in addition to his wife are sons and daughters-in-law: John F. Quinn III and June of Austin, TX; Andrew Quinn and Caroline of Taneytown, MD; daughters and son-in-law: Colleen McCoy and Kevin of Omaha, NE; and Caitlin Workman, stationed in Spain with the U.S. Navy. John is also survived by stepchildren and their spouses: Heather Grow of Westminster, MD; Scot Heidtman and Jen of Sykesville, MD; Emily Zwicker and Norman of Cortez, CO; and Colin Heidtman and Erin of Huntersville, NC. John was blessed to have 26 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. John loved family trips and creating many happy memories with all his loved ones. He was “the one behind the camera,” selflessly capturing all those memories. For a number of years, he had horses and loved the challenge of reining them in NHRA competition and enjoyed trail riding. John was a member of Friendship Baptist Church. John had an endearing, quirky sense of humor, a positive attitude, and a strong sense of gratitude. He would say, “Live for today, we are not promised tomorrow.” He could always find a silver lining in every situation and tried to do a good deed each day. The family will have a visitation, Friday November 7, 2025, at Haight Funeral Home and Chapel, from 4 - 6 P.M., a visitation on Saturday November 8, 2025, from 11AM - 12 PM, followed by a funeral service at 12 PM.
